Long-Term Resident Visa

A longer horizon. A carefully checked route.

The Long-Term Resident programme has distinct categories for different circumstances. A good LTR plan starts with the category you can substantiate, rather than the benefits you hope to receive.

What you get

  • 10 years of residence, renewed after the first 5 if you still qualify.
  • An annual address report instead of 90-day reports.
  • A digital work permit for the job the visa is based on.
  • Fast-track lanes at major airports.
  • A flat 17% personal income tax rate for Highly-Skilled Professionals.
  • Visas for a spouse and children under 20.

How the application works

  1. Pick your category and gather income, asset and insurance evidence.
  2. Apply online through the BOI's LTR system, which pre-screens eligibility.
  3. After BOI endorsement, collect the visa at a Thai embassy or at the One Stop Service Center in Thailand.
  4. Pay the 50,000 THB fee and register your digital work permit if you will work.

Before you decide

Questions, answered.

Does everyone qualify for a ten-year stay?

No. Both the category requirements and continuing conditions matter. The programme describes an initial five-year permission and an extension subject to maintaining qualifications.

Can you guarantee BOI endorsement?

No. We help organise the process and evidence; the BOI and immigration authorities decide the application.

Is the LTR better than Thailand Privilege?

If you qualify, usually yes: it's cheaper and you can work. Privilege suits people who don't meet the income tests or just want the simplest route. See [Thailand Privilege](/visas/thailand-privilege/).

How long does approval take?

The BOI aims for about 20 working days after a complete file, but missing documents add weeks. Allow two months.

Where should an LTR review begin?

With one specific BOI category and the evidence that supports it. Prepare your employment, income, insurance and dependant context as relevant to that category.

Should I arrange investments before a category review?

Get a qualified review of the current criteria and your circumstances before moving substantial funds or making an irreversible commitment.

What happens if my circumstances change?

Check your continuing qualifications and obligations with the BOI and the relevant authority. A change in employment, income or family circumstances may affect the plan.
